Sauti Sol Gives Kenyans in LA an Epic Show

Despite announcing an indefinite hiatus, the Sauti Sol quartet landed in LA and did not disappoint. The Chemistry was there, and fans who had waited several hours for the band to get on stage enjoyed every second of the show, which lasted almost two hours.

Fans, most with their cellphone cameras recording the show, sang along to favorite hit tunes, such as Short N Sweet, Melanin, and Kuliko Jana, and welcomed every song with familiarity and loud cheers.

Before Sauti Sol came on stage, several curtain-raisers entertained the crowd, including DJ Slym and King Kaka, who dazzled fans with his rap music and creative African-themed sepia videos playing on a big screen in the background.

LA Consulate General Ted Kwaka, famously known as Big Ted, graced the occasion, introduced the band, and teased the crowd about bringing more Kenyan entertainers to the States.

Fans enthusiastically cheered and embraced the idea, putting the onus on Big Ted, one of the most popular diplomatic officials ever to represent Kenya in a foreign country.

Sauti Sol kept the show high-energy from start to finish, and to make it happen, they brought in Amani, the drummer, who played the cymbals and the drums, upping the ante a notch with every song.

In the end, Sauti Sol posed for a photo on stage with fans in the background, a sign of appreciation and respect for the fans, who have cheered on the band for 18 years.

On Tuesday, June 2, Sauti Sol takes the show to New York, and then on June 4, they’re scheduled to perform in Washington, DC.
