The US has, however, come short of formally congratulating Deputy President William Ruto as Kenya's President Elect.
The petition argues IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati bungled Kenya's 2022 General Election by unilaterally declaring Deputy President William Ruto as he President-Elect amid the objections of a majority of the commissioners. The dissenting commissioners have accused Chebukati of running an opaque process and questioned the validity of the results he announced.
Chairman Chebukati declared Ruto won 50.49 percent of the vote, while Raila Odinga won 48.85 percent. Ruto thanked God for his victory and assured those who treated him badly that they have nothing to fear as he would not seek vengeance.
Ruto beat great odds to win a hotly-contested election. But his win is likely to be challenged in court after some of the electoral body commissioners objected to declaring him president-elect and the opposition claimed IEBC rigged the vote.
