The Africana Voice App: Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how The Africana Voice (“TAV,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with The Africana Voice mobile app (the “App”), available on iOS and Android.

The Africana Voice is currently operated by Ndole Media Group. This policy covers the App specifically. For our website, africanavoice.com, please see our main Privacy Policy, which also covers subscriptions, donations, and any purchases made on the website.

The short version

The App is free to download and use. You can read news, browse categories, search articles, and share stories, all without creating an account. We don’t require you to sign up, log in, or provide any personal information to use the App.

If you choose to support TAV through a donation or subscription, that happens on our website in your device’s browser, not inside the App itself, and is covered by our main Privacy Policy.

The only information we collect through the App is limited, anonymous technical data used to keep the App working reliably, described below.

Information we collect through the App

Crash and performance data

The App uses Firebase Crashlytics, a service provided by Google, to help us detect and fix technical problems. If the App crashes or encounters an error, Crashlytics may automatically collect:

  • Device model and operating system version
  • App version
  • A crash report, including which part of the App code was running at the time
  • A randomly generated device identifier (not linked to your name, email, or any account, since the App has no accounts)

This information is used solely to identify and fix bugs. We do not use it to identify individual users or track your activity.

Google’s handling of this data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase’s data processing terms.

Content requests

To display articles, categories, and search results, the App communicates with our website’s public content system (africanavoice.com). These requests retrieve publicly available news content and do not include any personal information about you.

Information we do not collect

The App does not:

  • Require or support account creation, login, or user profiles
  • Collect your name, email address, or contact information
  • Request access to your contacts, photos, camera, or location
  • Process any payment or donation information directly (see below)
  • Currently serve ads or use advertising trackers

Donations and subscriptions

The App may display suggestions to support The Africana Voice through a donation or subscription. Tapping these opens africanavoice.com in your device’s web browser, outside the App. Any payment information you provide is handled entirely on our website through our existing payment providers (including Stripe, Cash App, and M-Pesa) and is covered by our main Privacy Policy and the relevant payment provider’s own privacy practices. We do not receive or store your payment details through the App.

Sharing articles

If you use the App’s share feature, your device’s built-in sharing options will open (for example, to share a link via text message, email, or another app). This uses your device’s native sharing functionality; we do not track what you share or with whom.

Links to external content

Some articles may include embedded YouTube videos or links to external websites. Tapping these will open the relevant content in YouTube or your device’s browser, outside the App. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites or services; please review their own privacy policies.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information from any user in the ordinary course of use, this risk is limited by design.

Push notifications (planned feature)

We plan to introduce optional push notifications in a future update, to alert you to breaking news or new articles. If and when this feature launches, we will update this policy to describe what information is used to deliver notifications, and notifications will only be sent with your device-level permission, which you can decline or revoke at any time in your device settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example as we add new features to the App. We will update the “Last updated” date above when we do. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding any personal data processed in connection with the App or our website, including the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. Since the App itself does not collect personal data tied to your identity, most such requests will relate to data handled through our website. See our main Privacy Policy for full details on exercising these rights.
